Eldorado - Georgetown

If you take Highway 50 east out of Placerville, you're driving through the Eldorado National Forest. The area was originally settled during the 1849 gold rush by miners who named it "The Land of Gold". Although people don't go there seeking their fortune anymore, there are still plenty of reasons to come. Today the forest has more than 400 miles of hiking trails, two ski resorts, lakes for fishing, swimming and boating. Campers come from all over the country to enjoy the beautiful rivers and reservoirs.

Stumpy Meadows Campground is located about 18 miles east of Georgetown on Route 63, next to the clear, cold waters of the Stumpy Meadows Reservoir. The campground is situated in a conifer forest, with access to bike trails and great Rainbow and German Brown trout fishing. It has 40 camp sites and a boat ramp. The hosts at this site also take care of 18 campsites at Ponderosa Campground, and 7 at the Stumpy Meadows Boat Ramp. Water and sewer hookups are provided. Hours are 35 hours per week per couple during the regular season and 40 hours per week per couple during the peak season. This campground is open from the middle of May to the middle of September.
