Idaho Panhandle - Sam Owen The Sam Owen area is part of the Idaho Panhandle National Forest. Located in the east-central part of the Columbia Plateau between the Cascade and Bitteroot Mountains, the Idaho Panhandle is one of the most spectacular scenic areas in the country. Deep blue lakes, swift raging rivers, quiet streams and high rugged mountains invite hikers, river rafters, canoeists, and nature enthusiasts of all kinds.


Sam Owen Campground is located about 8 miles outside of Clark Fork on Lake Pend Oreille. This wooded campground has 79 single sites, a boat ramp, beach, day use area, and pavilion. Three of the four sets of camp hosts that care for Sam Owen are provided sites with full hookups, and the fourth host site has water and sewer hookups. Hours are 30 hours per week per couple during the regular season and 40 hours per week per couple during the peak season. The campground is open from May to October.
