2014 Lake Pend Oreille K&K Fishing Derby

Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho

2014 K&K Fishing Derby, April 26 - May 4

Idaho Fish & Game opened the lake to Kokanee last year, for the first time in many years. The Kokanee run up out of the lake into the creeks, like Trestle, to spawn in the fall. While in the lake, they are forage for the larger Rainbows, Bull Trout and the Lake Trout. The giant Rainbow hybrid and Mackinaw Lake Trout were introduced decades ago and over the years, decimated the previously abundant native Kokanee population.

There has been a long-standing effort to reduce the Lake Trout (Mackinaw) population in Lake Pend Oreille in order to allow the Kokanee population to recover. The Tournaments have been part of that effort. Success is reflected in the opening of the lake again to Kokanee harvest in 2013.

The Kokanee are doing SO well, that they've added the Kokanee Division to the K&K Fishing Derby this year.  Just look at all the awards and prizes!  Get your tickets now!
