Camping and Fishing near Yosemite - Dimond O Campground
/Dimond O Campground
Dimond O, hidden away in the rugged splendor of the high Sierra back country, is a perfect getaway destination for a family vacation or a weekend escape. The Middle Fork of the Tuolumne River gently bends around Dimond O, beckoning anglers to test their skills for the abundant stock of rainbow trout and the elusive native German brown trout. The Middle Fork is stocked regularly and fishermen are almost always assured of catching their limit. Dimond O is just minutes away from Yosemite National Park and Hetch-Hetchy Reservoir Recreation Area and serves as an excellent base camp for those two locations as well.
Originally a Boy Scout Camp established in the 1930’s, Dimond O has since been rebuilt by the Forest Service. It features paved interior roads, paved parking pads for RV campers and level tent pads for tent campers. Restroom facilities are handicap accessible, as are many of the 38 campsites.
The Stanislaus National Forest is home to a multitude of lakes and reservoirs, as well as 811 miles of rivers and streams and 18 fish species. Common species include rainbow, Eastern brook and German Brown trout, and salmon. The fishing areas are in a variety of terrain; some easy, some difficult.
