Moosehorn Campground in the high Uintas of Utah - Virtual Tour

Moosehorn Campground

Uinta National Forest \ Kamas Ranger District

Utahns favorite place to escape the summer heat is the high Uinta Mountains.  Moosehorn Campground lies at a cool 10,400' elevation on the shores of Moosehorn Lake.  Take the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (US 150) out of Kamas for 30.5 miles to the campground.  Connecting with nature means disconnecting with technology as there are no nearby cell towers.  But, trust us, you'll be recharged.

Moosehorn has 33 campsites that are generally open from early July through Labor Day.  Then open season is greatly dependent on the temps and snowfall.  Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring.  Some sites have a nice lake view.  Vault toilets, drinking water and garbage containers are also provided.  The on-site host sells firewood.  Follow the link to check rates, availability and current forest restrictions:  Recreation.gov \ Moosehorn

Campers enjoy fishing and non-motorized boating on Moosehorn Lake.  Your swim would be very brief in this cold water lake.  Hiking, biking and horseback riding on several nearby trails provide stunning views of the Uinta peaks and lakes.  Horses and ATVs are not allowed in the campground.  Access to Fehr, Shephard, Hoover, Maba and Marshall lakes is available at the trailhead across the highway from the campground.
