Colorado Boondocking - North Fork Poudre River
/North Fork Poudre Campground
Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest / Canyon Lakes Ranger District
Boondockers are the adventurous sort and prepared to camp anywhere. But for those of us who enjoy a maintained road, tent pad and clean restroom...North Fork Poudre is one of our favorites.
The campground is located near the banks of the North Fork Cache la Poudre River; well know for excellent fly-fishing. Find it west of Red Feather Lakes on Deadman Road in a dense Logdepole pine forest.
North Fork Poudre has 9 campsites, 1 vault toilet and no potable water. The campground and restroom are cared for by an off-site host. It is not suited for RV's as it is an older campground with shorter parking spurs. Each of the campsites have a picnic table, tent pad and fire grate. The price is reasonable and 1/2 price for those with a Senior or Disability Access Pass.
Access to hiking and mountain biking are available from the campground on the Killpecker Trail. North Lone Pine Trail is also popular with hikers/bikers and is about 2 1/2 miles east. There are OHV and horse trails nearby but horses are not allowed in the campground and ATV's must remain trailered.
North Fork Poudre Campground sits at 9150 feet elevation in the northern Colorado Rockies. Can't you just smell that clean Rocky Mountain air!
