About 2.5 miles northwest of Mountain High Ski Resort, on Big Pines Highway, is Jackson Lake. At 6,100 feet elevation the campground lies on the shores of the lake. 8 secluded campsites are shaded by scattered oak trees and Jeffrey pines. Power boats are not allowed on Jackson Lake making it a serene setting for canoeing, kayaking, swimming and fishing for trout and bluegill.
Hiking the nearby Blue Ridge or Pacific Crest trails and wildlife viewing are popular activities. Nelson bighorn sheep as well as bobcat, mountain lion and bear are often sighted. Food storage lockers, grills, picnic tables, vault toilets and drinking water are provided in Lake Campground. Firewood can be purchased at nearby Mountain Oak Campground.
Lake Campground is open until November 2, 2014. Reservations are taken for 4 of the campsites for arrival dates through October 26, 2014. All sites are first-come-first-served after that date until closing.
